If the power sector and FBR are not cleared of corruption, the boat may sink

The Prime Minister said that politicizing the issue of electricity is tantamount to insulting the people.


Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that only if they succeed in cleaning the power sector and the FBR institution from corruption and make them effective, the boat will be on the shore, but if they do not succeed in doing it right, it may sink.

Addressing the Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Friday, the Prime Minister said that power sector and FBR are two such institutions that we are riding on and hope to be able to fix them.

He said that they have been trying day and night to solve the electricity crisis since day one and politicizing this issue is tantamount to insulting the people. The Prime Minister said that we are not doing politics but we are making sincere efforts to solve a big challenge and making electricity cheaper is our agenda and that of the coalition government which includes Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari. He pointed to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and said that their two-term government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa raised slogans of building 300 small dams but could not build even one dam.

The Prime Minister said that during the tenure of Nawaz Sharif, load shedding of 22 hours was ended and four LNG plants were installed which are 62 to 64% efficient and these are the cheapest plants in history.

He said that efforts are being made to end power theft and the interim government has also taken good steps to solve this problem, which credit goes to the unwavering determination of the army chief. Regarding taxes, the Prime Minister said that some taxes are absolutely legitimate and if the tax base is not increased, the matter will end completely.

He said that imposing more taxes on the salaried class is not appreciable and the government is aware of it, that is why ordinary consumers have been cut Rs. has provided protection to and domestic consumers are 94 percent of the population i.e. 2.5 crore families.
